Behind the Scenes: Servicing Linn turntables
27 May 2025
It’s not all about new products at Adventures.
As an authorised Linn LP12 Specialist, a large part of our time is spent stripping down, repairing, restoring and re-building turntables. The Linn Sondek is possibly the most enduring audio component there is. Decks from as far back as it’s launch in 1973 can be restored to perfect condition and beautiful musicality.
Here. we’re sharing a couple of recent examples.
LP12 #1 (main image): this vintage LP12 was in a bit of a sorry state when it came in, but with a bit of TLC from turntable guru Phil, full service and replacement cartridge, it’s now good as new and sounding divine.
Some are more challenging than others of course, depending how well (or badly) they have been maintained and treated. Below is a prime example… be very careful who you entrust with your LP12. Servicing and upgrades should be performed by qualified Linn specialists only.
On LP12 #2, Phil really had his work cut out:
❌ The Valhalla power supply board was completely fried
❌ The armboard was the incorrect type and trashed by being overtightened
❌ The tonearm was incorrectly mounted and loose
❌ Both the P-Clip and Earth wire were hanging loose
BEFORE

So here’s what we did:
✅ Refurbished Valhalla power supply fitted
✅ New armboard supplied and fitted
✅ Tonearm correctly remounted, tightened and aligned
✅ Pre owned bearing and inner platter fitted, new oil
✅ New suspension, belt and AT540ML cartridge
✅ P-Clip re-done, correctly tightened. Earth wire re-done
AFTER

✅ Two very happy customers! That’s the beauty of LP12s 🥰🎶
